Manchester United close in on fourth summer signing after star’s World Cup exit

Manchester United are reportedly confident they’re closer to signing Chelsea winger Willian after his Brazil side were knocked out of the World Cup.

Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini did their bit for United to send Willian home from Russia, and it could now be that he’s going to be Old Trafford-bound before too long.

The Sun claim United are growing in confidence over the move, which seems a logical one given the struggles of players like Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez to hit top form in this system.

Mourinho is a very particular manager and playing an attacking role for him is still a pretty demanding job.

Willian will know what’s required from him in this team and has showed at Chelsea that he has the right kind of work ethic, mentality and big-game temperament for the job.

Nemanja Matic settled well since joining from Chelsea last summer, so raiding the Blues again seems a decent idea, even if it is potentially a bit of a sad metaphor for what Mourinho has become as he desperately tries to rebuild the side that won him the Premier League title in 2014/15. Still, whatever works, eh?
